Position: Tunnel Construction Manager / Planner JOB CATEGORY * Consultancy; * Project management; * Tunnels. JOB PROFILE Our clients Tunnel's division is recognized as one of the world's leaders in tunnel planning, design and construction, their expertise extends from soft ground to hard rock. Having planned and designed numerous road, rail, metro, water and service tunnels in all corners of the earth including the SMART road/ water tunnel in Malaysia, Boston Central Artery in the USA, Lesotho Highlands Water Project in Africa, the Channel Tunnel between the UK and France, and much of the London Underground metro system, they continue to be involved in some of the world's most challenging tunnel, sub-terrain, underground works and hydro-electric engineering projects. As a Tunnel Construction Manager/ Planner you will be involved in key project management in a range of global projects supporting and being responsible for coordination and management of key deliverables from feasibility, design, analysis through to completion, people and/or responsible for overall project management. This is a long-term career appointment with the opportunity to advance to more senior management positions. JOB DESCRIPTION Highly involved in Tunnel construction project management ensuring efficient and effective resource management facilitating tunnel construction management and planning associated with the design of engineering projects such as metro, highways, rail or cable tunnels, etc. Further responsibilities could include but not limited to: * Planning the work and maintaining responsibility for scope, budget, schedule and technical quality as the design progresses; * Project Management and coordination with other engineering disciplines including, Structural, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineers covering a range of project requirements from new build to modification, maintenance or refurbishment; * Responsible for one or more work packages, leading a team of engineers and technical staff to set design basis; * Act as the project representative for relationships with project operating divisions, local authorities, partners and contractors; * Support and potentially lead on Bid management assisting in tenders for a variety of Tunnel and underground work projects; * Ensure designs are buildable with appropriate consideration given to health and safety; * Develop construction programmes during the design phase of the Project; * Comprehensive assessment of the structural condition of all the tunnel assets has been carried out; * Carry out a feasibility study, looked at possible tunnelling methods and alignments; * Responsible for helping to organise, plan and execute many aspects of the assessment program including site testing and inspection, analysis, classification and reporting.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION * Candidates will have a depth of engineering experience working on multi-disciplinary, significant projects; * Capability to work closely with a range of stakeholders is essential providing a pragmatic, effective and successful solution to engineering challenges any project may present. Successful Candidates are likely to have the following characteristics: * Extensive site and/ or design Metro/Tunnel construction planning experience; * Strong academic qualifications ideally a civil engineering (or equivalent) preferably with MEng or MA qualifications although not essential; * Chartered engineer status is essential; * Design risk management, construction programming, tendering process and quality assurance management; * Experience of project management processes, from feasibility and design through to construction and close-out; * Experience of methods, tools and techniques for the design and assessment of tunnel designs supporting assessment to a range of project demands; * Experience and knowledge of differing underground construction techniques including TBM bored tunnels, hand excavated tunnels, NATM and cut-and-cover works; * Knowledge and experience in selection and design of tunnel linings in the construction of shafts and sprayed concrete lined tunnels preferably with UK design codes; * Be innovative looking to develop their technical and management skills and willing to tackle any challenge; * Skills in structural engineering, geotechnics, and railway and metro engineering will all be highly valued and utilised; * Ideally experience with both geotechnical and structural analysis programmes including CRISP, FLAC, Staad Pro; * Have the necessary drive to achieve their goals and deliver commercial success; * A personal drive to successfully conclude project specifics.
