You will join Bell Labs, the corporate research organization of Alcatel-Lucent. Bell Labs aims to provide continued differentiation to Alcatel-Lucent with world class technologies that solve hard problems facing our customers. Within Bell Labs, the "Optical Technologies" research domain investigates forward looking research activities for the preparation of the future optical transport networks that will interconnect cities and continents. Such networks will be expected to provide ever increasing capacity at reduced costs and energy impact. However such networks rapidly approach the fundamental limits imposed by physics. Thus the future of optical telecommunications will no longer take place at the scale of transmissions from one point to another but at the scale of the network so as to ensure optimal cost and energy efficiency. The current optical networks, extremely rigid, are then bound to evolve towards flexible architectures in which each optical connection can be dynamically allocated according to traffic fluctuations and physical constraints of the network (attenuation, nonlinear distortions, chromatic dispersion…) In order to enable Alcatel-Lucent to build the optical networks of the future, multiple skills and expertises gather into a single team, and your contribution will be decisive. As a specialist in Optics, you will study and propose high speed and flexible optical technologies. As a researcher you will also transfer your research results in the products of the company, publish your research results into scientific journals and conferences and innovate through patent proposals.
Qualifications You have a PhD thesis with a solid background in physics, optics or optical communications, possibly completed by some knowledge in digital communications. You are passionate about research and would like to join a research team with a world class expertise and a company that will help fulfil your ambition.
