Plan, prepare, or carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, or prevent physical dysfunction in patients. Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for revaluation. Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home. Administer active or passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, aquatic physical therapy, or heat, light, sound, or electrical modality treatments, such as ultrasound.
Encourage patients and attend to their physical needs to facilitate the attainment of therapeutic goals. Demonstrate therapy techniques, such as manual or creative arts or games. Instruct, or assist in instructing, patients and families in home programs, basic living skills, or the care and use of adaptive equipment. Communicate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals involved with the care of a patient. Provide inpatient or outpatient medical management of neuromuscular disorders, musculoscheletar trauma, acute and chronic pain, deformity or amputation, cardiac or pulmonary disease, or other disabling conditions. Transport patients to and from treatment areas, using wheelchairs or providing standing support. Measure patients' range-of-joint motion, body parts, or vital signs to determine effects of treatments or for patient evaluations.
