Job Title: Mechanical and Electrical Designer ENGINEER Reports to : Design Team Engineering Manager Who reports in to this position: Interface reporting by a team of approximately 10 staff members including; Building Surveyor, CAD Operator/Cartographer, Building and Civil Engineers, Engineering Surveyor, Document Controller consisting of UK Nationals and Internationally Recruited Workers (IRW). Location: Kandahar Airfield Working Conditions: Based in an operational theatre of war, with arduous conditions. Core Responsibilities and Duties • Provide electrical and mechanical advice to the Design Team Engineering Manager • Provide first point of contact for the electrical and mechanical technical team in UK • Design – Turning research ideas into technical plans using CAD software. • Produce fully costed and defined proposals for acceptance by the client / customer. • Regular client / customer interface • Oversee mechanical and electrical works ensuring compliance with the design, standards and codes of practice. • . • Oversee building fit-out works ensuring compliance with the design, standards and codes of practice. • Provide advice & solutions to site issues, to ensure project is delivered to time & budget. • Advise on sequence of works and monitor project progress. • Ensuring the appropriate QA/QC is applied, identifies defects and advising on remedial works where required. • Providing guidance on codes of practice, BS EN standards and best practice. • Attend site and progress meetings / site inspections and handover boards. • Assists in writing of O&M strategy, compiles O&M documentation and manuals. • Assists the Base Camp FM Team with problem solving • Reporting – writing or presenting regular progress reports as required. • Other duties as directed within relevant discipline.
2. Qualifications, Experience and Skills Essential: • A minimum of HNC, HND or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering • A minimum of 5 years relevant post qualification experience. • Site based supervisory experience of at least 5 staff members • Proven ability of applying good environmental practices in tasks performed including the investigation of accidents and incidents, carrying out risk assessments and risk control and complying with UK health and safety legislations. • A proven record of interpreting technical drawings from concept to handover of constructions works. • A track record of producing written reports and document site meetings, formally. • Ability to plan all site operations including Microsoft Project or equivalent, adapt to changing circumstances and meeting deadlines. • Experienced in bid work • A proven ability of producing fully costed Minor New Works proposals, monitoring expenditure as required, forecasting over run or under run, as well as the ability to make Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates. • Computer literate in Microsoft Office including Excel. • Production of multimedia proposals using CAD, visio, Microsoft Project, database tools, project planning and design tools with the ability to import and export between the various medias being used. Preferred: • Knowledge of airfield operations and services would be an advantage. • Be familiar with NATO, ICAO and ISO terminology. • Experience of working on operations in austere remote sites or in developing nations. • If qualified in Electrical Engineering, a qualification and/or experience in Mechanical Engineering. • If qualified in Mechanical Engineering, a qualification and/or experience in Electrical Engineering. • Familiar with or have experience of US electrical regulations • Electrical qualified individual to be qualified to 17th Edition IEE Regulations or recognised equivalent • Mechanical qualified individual to be familiar with 17th Edition IEE Regulations or recognised equivalent
