Bell Labs, the research organization within Alcatel-Lucent, is looking for a researcher in Computer Science / Software Engineering. Your goal as a researcher is to identify and research a wide variety of groundbreaking software technologies in the field of cloud platforms for future smart home & enterprise services. You create new intellectual property through patents, research platforms, prototypes, … which lead to the creation of differentiating Alcatel-Lucent products. You act as prime reference in your field of expertise in close cooperation with business, academic and industrial partners. The Cloud/NFV research activity is located in Antwerp (Belgium), and focuses on creating new distributed cloud technologies to deploy, orchestrate and monitor future IoT services across heterogeneous compute elements, being it micro-data-centers, home devices or IoT objects. You will be part of a highly skilled research team of computer scientists and engineers that works closely with the Alcatel-Lucent business units on new long term technologies that have the potential to impact the company’s product roadmaps. Goal: As a senior computer scientist/software engineer, you will be creating new NFV applications for the world of 2020, where Internet of Things (IoT) will be widely integrated in our daily-lives. You act as a prime reference for cloud research in close cooperation with business , academics, industrial research partners and customers. You create intellectual property through patents, in depth analysis’s, Proof of Concepts, …. to target longer term (3-5 years) differentiating features Your research work will impact existing Alcatel-Lucent products (like Motive / CloudBand / Nuage Networks). In addition, we are looking forward to new ideas to advance the state-of-the-art and create disruptive new products.
Technical background and experience: Experienced Master level Engineer in Computer Science, Electronics or Informatics PHD/Post-doc or equivalent scientific work-experience in high-tech environment is required You can conduct research from conceptualization, SW prototyping up to writing patents & publications. Profound expertise in Virtualization/Cloud platform (KVM, Openstack, LXC, Docker, …) Relevant expertise for performing research related to Linux container monitoring and security Knowledge in the domain of IoT is a plus Basic Knowledge of Networking/SDN is a plus Non-technical skills: You are a disruptive thinker and challenges existing technical approaches. Creativity and innovation are of prime importance. You are a quick learner, able to identify & research new technology concepts You have a positive and open mindset and have a strong autonomous drive to succeed You enjoy theoretical deep dives as well as experimental & broadly scoped work You are able to present your ideas and results in an inspiring way You are fluent in English and a natural communicator in multi-disciplinary team
