Work Environment: The IP Platforms Research program, as part of the world-leading Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs research center, has expert teams located in Antwerp, New Jersey, Stuttgart, France and Ireland. The research team in Antwerp is preparing future innovations in the area of Network Function Virtualization (NFV). NFV is the telecom-operator specific market segment of cloud-computing where high-reliability and performance is key. With our Heterogeneous Cloud research, we move beyond current Cloud deployment models, and target a 10x improvement in performance, predictability and/or Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of current NFV infrastructures. Goal: Your goal as Cloud/NFV researcher is to identify and research ground-breaking concepts in NFV technologies in Bell Labs. You act as a prime reference in cloud research in close cooperation with business , academics, industrial research partners and customers. You create intellectual property through patents, in depth analysis’s, Proof of Concepts, …. to target longer term (3-5 years) differentiating features within Alcatel-Lucent products (like CloudBand / Nuage Networks).
Qualifications Technical background and experiences: Experienced Master level Engineer in Computer Science, Electronics or Informatics PHD/Post-doc or equivalent scientific work-experience in high-tech environment is required Good knowledge & hands-on experience with low-level Linux OS Good knowledge & hands-on experience with Hypervisor technologies: KVM, LXC,VMWare Good understanding of various processor/compute technologies Excellent Programming skills in C/C++, experience with Python is a plus Experience & hands-on experience with Cloud OS technologies, like Openstack Experience & affection with experimental lab setups & networking technologies Non-technical Skills: Creativity and innovation are of prime importance You are a quick learner, able to identify & research new technology concepts You are dynamic and able to work in a broad technical domain You are a disruptive thinker and challenges existing technical approaches You have a positive and open mindset and have a strong drive to succeed You enjoy theoretical deep dives as well as experimental & broadly scoped work You are ready to be challenged outside your comfort zone to achieve top results You are stimulated to conduct research autonomously while contributing to global project teams in a cooperative and expert-rich environment You are able to present your ideas and results in an inspiring way You are fluent in English and a natural communicator in multi-disciplinary team
