Description Bell Labs research located in Dublin (Ireland) has a vacancy for a senior manager to lead a high performing team of 16 in the areas of thermal management of electronics and photonics, energy harvesting and energy storage. The candidate will play a key role in ensuring the team delivers world leading research while also impacting Alcatel-Lucent products in the nearer term. The following are essential requirements for the role: - Proven people person: Ability to engage with people on all levels (researcher to CEO) both internally (across research centres and product lines) and externally (with suppliers and academic collaborators). - Excellent communicator: Ability to tailor communication style to academics, product developers, and executive level business leaders. - Excellent vision and impact: Proven record of formulating a research vision and delivering on that vision for impact. Strong track record of transferring research assets to product is critical. - Broad understanding: Understand a range of diverse topics from fluid dynamics to materials science, from thermal management to energy harvesting, and from people management/interactions to product impact. - Strong collaborator: The candidate must be able to foster a collaborative dynamic both within and external to the research team and between research locations and between product teams. The candidate must have a deep understanding of how to work with product partners, academia, and suppliers for long-term partnerships.
Likely qualifications, knowledge, and experience: · Deep appreciation for how research is performed and proven ability to productise research outputs and/or strong product development experience. · PhD (preferred but not essential) in any domain related to thermal science, mechanical engineering, electro-chemistry, advanced materials science etc. · Strong analytical skills and a flair for innovation. · Strong written and spoken communications skills. · Strong track record of bringing new products to the market and working with tier 1 suppliers and world leading academic research institutes.
