To provide first and second level support on all Velocix products and services. To configure, monitor and manage the Velocix worldwide Content Delivery Network. To ensure maximum service availability to external and internal customers by providing efficient operations and maintenance support. Main Responsibilites: · Perform network surveillance 24/7, respond to network-reported and customer-reported problems and manage problem resolution (using Trouble-Tickets). Take ownership to ensure that all problems are resolved in a timely and efficient manner. Coordinate with suppliers and customers to expedite problem resolution. · Escalate problems to third level support (Velocix technical teams or suppliers) where these cannot be resolved within the Network Operations Centre (NOC). · Perform general “system administration” tasks on all elements of the network. · Perform documented network configuration procedures. · Pro-actively monitor network and system performance. Analyse traffic data and trends and escalate areas of concern to the network design authority. · Through pro-active and systematic review, discover problem areas which could negatively impact system performance or customer satisfaction. · Provide scheduled and on-demand traffic analysis reports. · Monitor key suppliers service levels and highlight where Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are not being met. Qualifications Qualifications: Demonstrable Linux/Unix systems administration experience (ideally in an ISP/NOC). Technically astute problem solver; sees things through to completion. Self-motivated and capable of working in a cross-functional team. Clear written and verbal communication skills, good telephone manner. Takes the initiative to ensure deadlines are met. Practical, accurate and precise. Ability to build quality working relationships with external and internal customers. Ability to prioritise tasks and projects in-line with business requirements.
Technical Skills Essential: Good knowledge of Linux/Unix systems administration (ideally in a distributed network environment). Proficient in use of the Linux/Unix command line interface. Basic scripting using bash/shell/perl. Good knowledge of enterprise-class IP infrastructure (routers/switches/firewalls). Highly computer literate. Desirable: Experience of network management using SNMP. Experience of CheckPoint Firewalls. Good knowledge of networking equipment administration. RedHat RHCT/RHCE certification. Cisco CCNA/CCNP certification. Good knowledge of packet-based interface monitoring tools such as tcpdump and Ethereal. Working knowledge of peer-to-peer (P2P) protocols. Experience of supporting highly available web-based services. Ability to produce simple web tools using Perl, Python, PHP, HTML and mySQL. Confident in MS office applications (particularly Excel). Interested candidates must be able to work on a 24/7 shift rota (12 hour shifts, 4 days on, 4 days off) when this is introduced in 2010. NOC Engineers are also on-call (approximately one week out of every five).
