Bell Labs' research facility in Dublin, Ireland is a leading end-to-end systems and solutions lab working in the areas of RF hardware, wireless sensor networks, thermal management, autonomic networking and semantic data access. We have an opening for an inspired innovator in our RF hardware research group, as an RF front-end hardware researcher. A successful candidate will have strong experience of electromagnetic simulation and RF hardware design for filters, antennas and/or other passive structures. The position involves work in the context of innovative radio transceiver architectures for communications applications such as 5G radio solutions and MIMO systems for mobile communication systems working below 6GHz, but also pushing the boundaries of such system into the mmWave-range of 60GHz and above. Main duties and responsibilities: • Carry out groundbreaking research into technologies and solutions for filters, antennas and/or other active and passive RF structures whilst ensuring strong linkage to real world applications. • Partner with business units to ensure the successful exploitation of research outputs. • Contribute to the technical definition of research programs, project objectives and work plans. • Propose and publish research for the major research publications worldwide. • Create and maintain strong collaborative associations with university-based researchers, other leading research bodies, product business units and government agencies.
Required qualifications, knowledge, and experience: • A PhD in any electronic-engineering related domain. • Inspired innovator able to prove concepts with real prototypes. • Ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to team-oriented projects. A successful candidate will be versatile, flexible, hands-on, and a self-starter. • Experience in electromagnetic simulation and RF circuit design is required. • Experience in one or more of the following areas: -Filter design. -Antenna/antenna array design. -Prototyping of RF components and/or subsystems. -RF transceiver chain system engineering, e.g. for cellular, WLAN and/or wireless sensor networks. • Experience in the area of mmWave backhaul, satellite communications or radar applications is also appreciated but not mandatory. • Additionally candidates must have: -Strong written and spoken communications skills. -A proven track record in a research arena or strong industrial experience.
