Bell Laboratories is seeking a post-doctoral or senior level candidate for a position in the Wireless program for Wireless Networking at our Stuttgart location. Successful candidates are expected to pursue internationally recognized projects in fundamental or long-term research on topics related to wireless communication systems. The specific topic of interest in Wireless Networking are Virtual Radio Access Network and cloudification solutions for 4G and 5G in particular: - Resource Pooling management in a SDN environment for flexible functional split - Virtualization - scalable packet scheduler solutions The candidate should have strong research skills with outstanding analytical/theoretical capabilities and/or extensive simulation and implementation experience. Main duties and responsibilities: - Carry out groundbreaking research in the virtualization of L1,L2 and L3 functions in the real time context of wireless systems from the basic concept to an implementation either on a Multi-cell system siimulator or in a Prototype - Design, implementation and performance validation of advanced of user scalable packet schedulers for 4G and 5G - Bring strong research knowledge and expertise to a cross-disciplinary team - Contribute to the definition of technical foundations for research programs, project objectives and work plans. - Propose and publish research in major research forums worldwide. - Create and maintain strong collaborative associations with university-based researchers, other leading research bodies, product business units and government agencies.
Qualifications - PhD in electrical engineering, telecommunications, mobile communication systems or a related discipline - Expert knowledge in Wireless Air-interface protocols L1,L2 and L3 and scheduling concepts for LTE - Programming knowledge in C, C++ or Java - Helpful would be some knowledge on virtulaization technologies with VMs and /or containers - Ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to team-oriented projects. A successful candidate will be versatile, flexible, hands-on, and a self- starter. - Ability to work in a collaborative environment amongst business as well as academic partners - Strong written and verbal communication skills, can express him/herself fluently in English
