SHIPBUILDING SUPERVISORS FOR SEAGOING VESSELS (STEEL/ PIPE/ ELECTRICAL AND MACHINERY WORK) _________________________________ Description: Under varying levels of direction from the Senior Vessel Construction Manager, with some latitude for independent judgment, is responsible for or assisting in the planning, control and execution of structural, mechanical, and electrical marine engineering projects on all marine vessels. For easy tracking of our candidates, please apply directly to agency email not on site with Subject "SHIPBUILDING SUPERVISOR" - Performs related work such as serving as, or assisting, the Agency lead and project manager for design, construction and commissioning of new marine vessels. - Responsible for or assisting in the management of vessel design and construction contracts on behalf of the Agency, working independently in the field with decision-making authority. Minimum Qual Requirements 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration, and 3 years of full-time satisfactory experience in the planning, administering or expediting of engineering design, and/or construction, or coordinating a large engineering project, 2 years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or 2. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and 5 years of experience as described in "1" above; two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or 3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. An accredited Master's degree in one of the disciplines described in "1" above, or a valid license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect or Landscape Architect may be substituted for one year of the required experience. However, all candidates must have the 2 years of the managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Preferred Skills 1. Experience in the design and construction of marine vessels, from concept through final construction, and in the management of large marine projects. 2. Experience in construction and repair of marine vessels, with on-site shipyard experience. 4. Design and specification writing and review. 5. EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL TASKS: - Researches and advises on the preparation of specifications and on projects connected with vessel (ferry/barge/etc.) dry dockings, conversions, modifications, and new construction. - Provides cost estimates and monitors budgets for projects. - Performs field surveys of assigned projects from prior to inception through completion to monitor progress, including, but not limited to: research of drawings/technical manuals, classification surveys, regulatory agency compliance and vessel reports. - - - Incorporates required items into specifications. - Ensures contractor compliance with project specifications. Prepares final/completion reports for projects. - Tracks and monitors vessel/barge preventive maintenance systems, machinery and hull conditions for maintenance issues that may need to be addressed during dry dockings/projects/new construction. - Monitors and documents dry dockings, new construction, miscellaneous projects, and specification submission time lines. - Supervises and reviews the work of subordinate staff. - Coordinates with vessels staff to ensure all design considerations are included in new construction or dry docking specifications and projects.
