Job Objective / Mission: The Velocix development team has been using scrum for some time, with ever increasing levels of success. We are looking for someone experienced in this methodology to join our team of scrum masters, to coach other team members and to help drive continuous improvement of our process. Main Responsibilities: · Scrum master (servant leader) to engineering team(s) · Help the team quickly make visible, remove and prevent impediments to progress · Coach and support the team around delivering business value as shippable increments of product · Coach and support the Product Owner and find effective techniques for product backlog management · Help the team understand the need for small, clear product backlog items using techniques such as story slicing and acceptance criteria · Ensure teams progress towards business goals is visible and transparent · Coach the team in self-organisation and cross-functionality · Uphold the agile values and practices within the team and organisation · Facilitate scrum ceremonies & coach the scrum process so the team understands why they are important and what they mean · Evolve the teams definition of ready and definition of done incrementally so that their quality improves · Foster a continuously improving, delivery-focused, highly collaborative culture within the team for both product and process · Work with the other scrum masters to increase the effectiveness of Agile in the organisation


Suitable candidates should have: · A relevant degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar. · Solid understanding of scrum principles and mechanics, with significant experience working as a scrum master in a software company. · Previous experience as a software engineer · Scrum Master Certification Competencies: Essential: · Servant Leader – Must be able to garner respect from his/her team and be willing to get their hands dirty to get the job done · Communicative and social – Must be able to communicate well with teams · Facilitative – Must be able to lead and demonstrate value-add principles to a team · Assertive – Must be able to ensure Agile/Scrum concepts and principles are adhered to, must be able to be a voice of reason and authority, make the tough calls. · Situationally Aware – Must be the first to notice differences and issues as they arise and elevate them to management · Enthusiastic – Must be high-energy · Continual improvement - Must continually be growing ones craft learning new tools and techniques to manage oneself and a team · Conflict resolution - Must be able to facilitate discussion and facilitate alternatives or different approaches · Attitude of empowerment - Must be able to lead a team to self-organization · Attitude of transparency – Must desire to bring disclosure and transparency to the business about development and grow business trust Desirable: · Understand basic fundamentals of iterative development · Understand other processes and methodologies and can speak intelligently about them and leverage other techniques to provide value to a team/enterprise · Understand basic fundamentals of software development processes and procedures · Understand the value of commitments to delivery made by a development team · Understand incremental delivery and the value of metrics · Understand backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition · Familiarity with common Agile practices, service-oriented environments, and better development practices
