A vacancy exists within the Radio Access Standards team in the Wireless CTO organisation for a Senior Standards Engineer to work on future releases of the LTE-Advanced and 5G Radio Access Networks. The successful candidate will represent Alcatel-Lucent in 3GPP RAN WG2 or WG1 and other relevant fora on aspects relating to the physical and/or radio protocol layers. He or she should possess in-depth technical understanding of radio system design, including expertise in as many as possible of protocol design, signalling design, multiple access techniques, network interfaces, signal processing, and system level simulation. Knowledge of ASN.1 would be an advantage. He or she will need outstanding communication skills, both orally and in writing, with the ability to develop logical arguments and express them clearly, concisely and convincingly. The role requires a strong command of English, outstanding interpersonal skills and persuasive negotiation ability. The successful candidate will also need the ability to work effectively across different timezones, nationalities and specialisms, building relationships and interfacing constructively with Research (Bell Labs), System Engineering, Strategy and Product Management teams. The role involves extensive international travel. Duties and Responsibilities include Attending and contributing to 3GPP RAN WG1 and/or WG2, as well as various related technical fora on occasions. Writing and presenting technical documents and participating in technical discussions in 3GPP. Driving Alcatel-Lucent design concepts into 3GPP specifications. Performance evaluation of aspects of the radio interface in relation to concepts originating from both Alcatel-Lucent and other companies. Working closely with Product Line Management and developing standards strategy based on Alcatel-Lucent’s product needs. Working closely with system engineering and R&D departments to assist in development of standards compliant products. Developing creative and novel approaches to evolve and develop the LTE and 5G standards, and interfacing with research projects suitable for standardisation. Supporting Alcatel-Lucent customer teams in presentations and other means of customer support. Supporting Bids and Proposal activities. Acting as a knowledge reference on the status and direction of standards activities.
The candidate should have a Masters level degree or PhD with strong relevance to wireless communications and have attained a high honors level. Extensive experience within the telecommunication field and in UMTS/LTE. Knowledge of LTE radio access network design Experience in as many as possible of protocol design, control signaling, ASN.1, multiple access techniques, mobility management, network interfaces, physical layer / baseband processing techniques such as modulation, channel estimation, channel coding, MIMO, spatial multiplexing, diversity schemes, signal processing, hybrid ARQ. Experience with simulations at link and/or system level. Skill in presentations in international fora. Proficiency in technical writing. Prior standardization experience would be a bonus.
